How To Budget To Make Sure You Can Furnish Your House
Furnishing your first home with no debt.
It sounds impossible but you know us...at First Home Buyers Direct we want to make the impossible, possible. So we went ‘on the line’ and put these financial tips and tricks together for all you first home buyers.
1. Decide on what you want your house to look like
Spend some time on Pinterest and Instagram looking for some inspiration. Put a mood board together for each room so you can start to see what you want things to look like. This way you know what you’re looking for and won't waste time in stores trying to figure things out.
2. Rank rooms by priority
Use your moodboard for this. You will obviously need to start with things for your dining room, lounge room, kitchen and at least one bedroom, right? So, start there! You don’t need to furnish the two spare bedrooms that no one is going to use straight away. Start with what you will use the most and go from there.
3. Make sure people know you’re not above accepting hand-me-downs
When you tell people you’re moving into a new house, you will find lots of people have things. They can give you to help you out. Before saying yes to everything, consider these three things:
- Is what you’re given something that you need, like and want?
- Do I know where I will use it?
- Is it in good condition?
You can be selective with what you say yes to. Even though you might think beggars can’t be choosers, ultimately you’re not a beggar and saying no to something you won’t use is totally okay.
4. Be savvy with your purchases
Use things like EOFY and Boxing Day sales to your advantage. Outside of these times, if you’re buying new, ask for a cash discount and generally you will get one.
There’s a few items you wouldn’t want to skimp on and buy cheap alternatives, such a bed mattress and a couch (the two most- used items in our home anyway). You want these to be supportive and comfortable so spend the time picking the right ones.
We hope these tips help you and remember, if in doubt...ask us! For more ideas and options on how you can save money when moving into your first home, check out our fantastic deals.
